Who needs the Pyramids??

Why do I ask who needs the pyramids, well because yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting our very own Wonder of the World. Out in the wilds of Meath are monuments that pre date the Pyramids at Giza and  the stone circle at Stonehenge, so what is this wonderful place? Its the ancient passage tombs at Brú na Bóinne. Brú na Bóinne includes Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth. Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit the passage tomb at Newgrange, the place is  simply amazing, it provides more questions than answers. How did our ancestors manage to build this place which pre dates the wheel? These Stone age people had knowledge of astronomy, engineering and science. All I can say is that if anyone gets a chance they should visit it.

Meteor Adverts: .

Recently the phone company Meteor has run a series of television commercials, advertising there cheap international calls to the USA and to the UK. No doubt Meteor are hoping to cash in on the amount of Irish people emigrating. Both ads show one friend in Ireland ringing their friend who has left the country. In both ads the person receiving the call is portrayed as well dressed, well spoken and successful, while on the other hand the person in Ireland is shown to be an inane idiot. Is Meteor making a commentary on the youth of the nation, they seem to be saying "only an idiot wouldn't emigrate". Here are the offending ads.

Advert 1: Calls to America:

Advert 2: Calls to the UK:

In the words of Paul Gogarty: "F**k you Meteor.

Thats off my chest now.

Great Irish Haircuts...

From Singers to Sportspeople, from Z list RTE celebrities to Politicians, Ireland has had some truly great haircuts. Who are these people and what does there hair say about them. Here are some of the haircuts that shaped a nation.

Paul McShane: Ginger and Proud, many gingers cut or dye their hair in order to avoid the shame, not our Paul though.

Jackie Healy Rae model's a classic style for many bald Irish Men. However he;s fooling nobody.

Another bald politician, another bad hairdo. Donie Cassidy gives wigs a bad name.

Zig and Zag, Zag made dreadlocks cool in the 90's. However Green hair never quite caught on, sorry Zig!

Mayo footballers, classy footballers evenier classier cuts.

Cool Irish man, cool haircut.

A not so cool Irish man says; "Look at my cool new hair".

I better get mine cut, Maybe like Enda.

Stay Classy from Guaranteed Irish.

The many travels of Robbie Keane

And so another transfer window has come, and Irish soccer's version of Katherine Thomas is off on his travels again. This time it seems Irelands top scorer of all time is off to Birmingham City, so lets remind ourseleves of the many clubs Robbie has graced.

17 year old Robbie burst on to the scene at Wolves in 1997 becoming their Top scorer with 16 goals in his first full season.

But Robbie did'nt stay in Division One and Gordon Strachan splashed out £6million, then a record for a teenager. In a hugely attacking Coventry including Morrocon duo Chippo, Hadji, Keane flourished scoring 12 in 34 games.

It was'nt long until the Italian giants Inter Milan came a calling. In the summer of 2000 the Nerrazurri splashed out £13million, however when Marcello Lippi got the sack, Keane fell down the pecking order and he was off on his travels again

He joined Leeds on Loan and an impressive 9 goals in 14 starts enticed David O'Leary to make the move permanent in a deal worth £12million. However things turned sour at Leeds and Keane was among a raft of players to flee the troubled midlands club.

When Keane joined Spurs in 2002 and it seemed the Tallaght man had finally found a home. Between 2002 and 2008 Keane scored 107 goals in all competitions. He became a fan favourite winning player of the year 3 times. Keanes consistency attracted Rafa Benitez attention and Liverpool handed over £20 million for his Services.

However it seemed like Inter all over again, Keane failed to settle and he was sold back to Spurs for just £12 million. By now Keanes Transfers amounted to over £75 million in fees.

After Keane's return to North London, rail, Virgin trains ran an advertisement with the slogan "A Liverpool to London return faster than Robbie Keane". Although he scored 14 goals in his year back with spurs, Keane began to fall down the pecking order. In order to get some first team football keane headed North to Scotland.

At Celtic, Keane seemed reborn he scored 16 in 19 for his boyhood club. Added to this Keane was voted player of the year by the fans. However it was soon time to go.

However Robbie was soon longing for the road again. Where to next for Irelands Captain?

Till next time,

Guaranteed Irish.

Its not XFactor its TaoiseachFactor!

Yes people its finally been decided, the next Taoisech will not be decided by a boring old election. Instead of setting out their political stalls to the electorate, Brian Cowen and Enda Kenny have decided on a sing off. Guaranteed Irish has been given a sneak preview and Im not disapointed. Brian has gone for a number he wrote himself, while Enda prefers the catchy tune "Is this the way to Amarillo".

Song Number 1: Brian Cowen

Song Number 2: Enda Kenny

Well I thought they were both great, however what does the expert think:

Simon's not too happy with those performances, but what will he think of Joan Burton on next week's show.

Til next time!

Hurling goes International.

I heard about this story a while back in The Irish Examiner, a group of American soldiers decided to form there own hurling club after seeing a match on television in shannon. The club called the Barley House Wolves has an almost exclusive American membership.

The Club featured on in a documentary on the 4th of January on US cable televison that was broadcast to 30 million homes. Check it out here at:

These guys would put many GAA clubs to shame.

Welcome!

This year I have many new years resolutions and some of them I actually intend to keep. One of these resolutions is to blog on all things Irish in 2011. However this does not mean that Guaranteed Irish will be full of shamrocks and paddy whackery, no this blog will have none of that, I promise. Here are some of the things that interest me, and that will feature in this blog;

All things Irish in the world of sport in 2011. From GAA to Road Bowling, and from Soccer to Cricket.

All things Current affairs in 2010. What does the crystal ball hold for Ireland?

Irish craic; heres some from TV3.

Irish fashion with Paul Galvin! Tight jeans anyone?

And what ever I feel like ranting about. Like this guy, but without swearing like a docker!

Anyway, these are the things that I think I will blog about during 2011, but I cant Guarantee it!
